Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer to oversee, operate, and continuously improve our IT infrastructure across the EU & UK regions. This role serves as the regional technical owner for on-premises, data center, and cloud infrastructure, supporting enterprise and scientific workloads, including GPU-accelerated, high-performance computing (HPC), and containerized platforms.
The position is primarily based in Scotland, with periodic travel to Germany and other EU locations as required. The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable operating headless infrastructure (Linux-first, API-driven systems), and experienced in running modern hybrid environments, including Kubernetes-based platforms and AWS.
Job Responsibilities
Act as the primary infrastructure owner for EU-based environments, including data centers, offices, and cloud integrations.
Design, deploy, and operate enterprise, scientific, and compute-intensive infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and virtualization.
Support and maintain Linux-based, headless infrastructure, prioritizing automation, reliability, and reproducibility.
Operate and optimize GPU-enabled and HPC environments, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and hardware lifecycle management.
Support containerized platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) used for data processing, analytics, and scientific workloads.
Build and operate hybrid infrastructure, integrating on-premises systems with AWS, including GPU-capable and container-native services.
Collaborate with global IT, research, data, and security teams to align infrastructure with organizational standards and scientific needs.
Ensure infrastructure meets availability, performance, security, and compliance requirements, particularly in regulated or research-driven environments.
Lead or contribute to infrastructure initiatives such as data center upgrades, cluster expansions, cloud migrations, and platform modernization efforts.
Provide Tier 3/4 operational support for complex infrastructure issues and participate in escalation or on-call rotations as required.
Maintain clear, actionable documentation for architectures, platforms, and operational procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field with at least 2 years’ related work experience OR High School diploma with at least 6 years’ related work experience
Proven experience supporting enterprise or data center infrastructure in production environments
Experience in AWS & cloud-based technologies
Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent)
Experience operating headless infrastructure, including API-driven platforms and containerized environments
Experience supporting GPU-accelerated or HPC workloads
Hands-on experience with AWS (highly preferred), including EC2, VPC, IAM, storage
