**Job Title**
IT Systems Engineer II
**Role Summary**
Design, deploy, and maintain hybrid on‑premises and cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise and scientific workloads across the EU & UK. Focus on Linux‑based headless systems, GPU‑accelerated/HPC environments, Kubernetes container platforms, and AWS services.
**Expectations**
Deliver reliable, secure, and compliant infrastructure with high availability. Manage capacity, performance, and lifecycle of compute, storage, and networking assets. Provide Tier‑3/4 support, participate in on‑call rotations, and maintain clear operational documentation.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Own EU‑based data center, office, and cloud environments, including architecture and day‑to‑day operations.
- Design, deploy, and operate servers, storage, networking, and virtualization platforms for enterprise and scientific workloads.
- Support Linux headless infrastructure, prioritizing automation, reliability, and reproducibility.
- Operate and optimize GPU‑enabled and HPC environments (capacity planning, performance tuning, hardware lifecycle).
- Manage containerized platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) for data processing and scientific analytics.
- Build and operate hybrid infrastructure, integrating on‑premises systems with AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3/EBS).
- Collaborate with global IT, research, data, and security teams to align infrastructure with organizational standards and scientific needs.
- Ensure availability, performance, security, and compliance, especially in regulated or research‑driven settings.
- Lead or contribute to data center upgrades, cluster expansions, cloud migrations, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Provide Tier‑3/4 operational support, participate in escalations and on‑call rotations, and maintain detailed documentation of architectures and procedures.
**Required Skills**
- Linux system administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent) on headless environments.
- Experience with API‑driven and containerized infrastructure.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes and related container orchestration tools.
- Experience managing GPU‑accelerated or HPC workloads.
- Hands‑on AWS expertise (EC2, VPC, IAM, storage services).
- Strong automation skills (IaC, scripting).
- Capacity planning, performance tuning, and hardware lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of security and compliance requirements for regulated environments.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation abilities.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with ≥2 years of relevant experience, **or**
- High school diploma with ≥6 years of relevant experience.
Optional but preferred certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, Certified Kubernetes Administrator.
