About the Role
We are an early-stage startup building our data platform intentionally from the ground up. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who seeks ownership: designing the foundations, shipping quickly, and making pragmatic tradeoffs that scale with the company.
You will be one of the key people defining how data moves through the system. This is a hands-on role in a GCP-first environment where you’ll influence architecture, tooling, and standards from day one.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines, primarily using Dataflow
Own ingestion, transformation, and modeling of data for analytics and product needs
Work closely with engineering to define clear data contracts
Build reliable, well-modeled datasets in BigQuery, Elasticsearch, and Neo4j to support analytics and product use cases
Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting
Optimize pipelines for cost, performance, and reliability as usage grows
Help establish best practices, patterns, and tooling for data engineering
Qualifications & Skills
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data engineering, backend, or platform engineering
Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python and/or Scala
Experience building and running production data pipelines
Solid understanding of ETL patterns and data modeling
Comfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions
Understanding of information security principles and ISMS policies
Knowledge of security best practices for cloud environments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Apache Beam, Scio, and running pipelines on Dataflow
Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, etc.)
Experience supporting analytics, experimentation, or ML workloads
Knowledge of data quality, observability, or lineage tooling
Experience being the primary owner of data systems in a small team
Domain experience with legal technology and forensic accounting workflows
Compensation
• Competitive base salary US $120,000 to US $150,000 (commensurate with experience)
