The Role
As a Student Labourer, you get to spend your summer outside being part of a team that actively assists operational staff in maintaining a multitude of services throughout the City, while interacting positively with the public.
Under the Environmental Services Division, our student labourers are responsible for general maintenance, clean up, landscaping, grass cutting, painting, etc. These sites include working at the Sarnia Harbour, Wastewater Treatment plants, collection system lift stations and administration buildings.
Working conditions include physical labour with moderate to heavy lifting, the use of small tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
Term
Please note that the anticipated term of employment will be:
May 4, 2026 – August 28, 2026
Successful candidates will be expected to be available for the full duration of the employment term.
Mandatory Training
Additionally, all student employees must be available to attend mandatory training, which will be scheduled as follows:
Monday, May 4, 2026 & Tuesday, May 5, 2026
Requirements
Current student, returning to full-time studies in September 2026
Safety conscious and always demonstrate safe work practices
Follow instructions well
Excellent teamwork skills
Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner
Valid G2 drivers licence with an abstract acceptable to City guidelines
Working Conditions
Outdoors in all weather conditions
Physical labour
Operating small tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
Hours of Work
40 hours per week, Monday – Thursday
