Cyber Security Controls Contractor (2nd Line of Defence)

Location: New Jersey (NJ)

Contract: 9 Months

We are partnering with a leading financial services organisation seeking an experienced Cyber Security Controls Specialist to operate within the Second Line of Defence (2LoD) function.

This is a high-impact contract role focused on independently reviewing and challenging cybersecurity controls to ensure they are robust, effective, and aligned with the Cyber Risk Institute (CRI) Framework v2.1.

The Role

You will act as an independent oversight function, ensuring cybersecurity controls are appropriately designed, tested, and operating effectively. The role requires confident challenge, strong regulatory awareness, and a control testing mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Review and assess cybersecurity controls against CRI Framework v2.1
Provide independent challenge to control design and effectiveness
Identify control gaps, weaknesses, and areas for enhancement
Partner with 1st Line teams to improve control maturity
Document findings and present recommendations to stakeholders
Support regulatory examination readiness and remediation efforts

Ideal Background

Experience within financial services
Strong understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model
Background in control testing, internal audit, or external audit
Experience engaging with regulators (Federal Reserve, OCC, or similar bodies)
Strong analytical capability with clear stakeholder communication

Highly Desirable

External audit background
Direct exposure to regulatory examinations
Information security certification or strong hands-on control testing experience
