Mid-Level Software Engineer (Contract) – Build a Next-Generation Trading Platform (Java / Python)

Contract | Financial Technology | High-Impact Engineering

We are looking for a highly capable software engineer to join our client on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to build and support a new trading platform focused on securities lending, repo, and Delta-1 products.

You will help drive the transition to a new platform, working on core architecture, performance, and platform development. This is a hands-on role with strong ownership and direct impact on production systems.

This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, building scalable systems, and working in fast-paced environments.

Role Overview

You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining core components of a securities platform. The role requires strong technical capability, sound engineering practices, and the ability to contribute to platform continuity and migration.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain core platform components
Support migration and continuity to a new securities platform
Build scalable, high-performance backend services
Work with relational databases and optimise data handling
Collaborate on system architecture and technical design
Write clean, maintainable, production-quality code
Operate within a Linux-based development environment
Use version control and modern development workflows

Essential Skills and Experience

Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python
Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
Comfortable working in Linux environments
Experience using version control systems such as Git
Strong problem-solving ability and software engineering fundamentals
Proven experience operating at a mid-level engineering capacity
Experience in financial services or trading systems
Knowledge of securities lending, repo, or Delta-1 products
Experience building or migrating platforms
