Location: Charlotte, NC
Hybrid: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote
6-month contract with strong potential for extension or full-time hire
Brooksource is seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to join our Fortune 500 Telecommunications client's team supporting critical platform administration, environment builds, and cloud/on‑prem infrastructure operations. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with foundational experience in Linux system administration and scripting who are eager to expand their skills in a highly technical, hands‑on environment.
You will work closely with senior engineers to gain experience in building and configuring platforms across AWS and on‑prem environments, learning installation workflows, firewall operations, patching, and day‑to‑day system management. This role offers the opportunity to develop long-term expertise in cloud technologies, infrastructure automation, and platform engineering best practices
Required Qualifications:
Bash Scripting
Python or Node.js
Linux system administration (config, patching, server support)
Foundational AWS knowledge
Strong hands-on mentality and willingness to dive into technical tasks
Preferred Skills:
Terraform (team will train and introduce)
GCP exposure (not required; team will upskill)
Early-Stage Responsibilities (first few weeks to months):
Shadow senior systems engineers during full platform builds
Learn installation workflows, firewall setup, and configuration steps
Assist with access-related tasks, including IAM
Support administrative tasks across multiple platform teams
Complete low-complexity, hands-on system administration activities
Long-Term Responsibilities:
Participate in environment builds across AWS and On-Prem
Support future expansion into GCP
Perform system installation, configuration, and firewall management
Own system patching, updates, and remediation work
Support Linux-based platforms using Bash scripting
Troubleshoot systems and assist in incident resolution
Utilize/increase proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure automation
Contribute to ongoing platform and environment improvements
