Acara Solutions is looking for a experienced QA/QC Manager for our client in The Woodlands, TX.

$50-$55+/hr (based on experience) (flex)
Long term contract (12+mo) to direct position
Hybrid (travel to vendor shops as needed)

Key Responsibilities

Quality Strategy & Governance

Own the supplier QA/QC framework for engineered equipment (rotating/static, electrical, instrumentation, packaged systems); align with ISO and internal QMS procedures.
Translate owner requirements (design basis, performance, regulatory, SMI standards) into clear vendor quality requirements and contract quality exhibits.
Develop and approve supply chain equipment suppliers, supplier quality plans, ITPs, critical quality characteristics (CQCs), and hold/witness points.

Supplier Qualification & Surveillance

Qualify new and periodically audit suppliers/sub-suppliers; assess capability, special processes, personnel qualifications, calibration control, and document management.
Plan and execute risk-based surveillance (shop visits, stage inspections, pre-inspection meetings, FAT/SAT oversight).
Coordinate third-party inspection agencies (TPIs); ensure inspection scope, instructions, and reporting cadence are clear and enforced.

Project QA/QC Execution

Review and approve vendor quality documentation: WPS/PQR/WPQ, NDE procedures, coating/PWHT procedures, electrical test plans, FAT procedures, and MDR indexes.
Oversee execution of ITPs including material receiving/traceability, dimensional checks, special processes (welding, heat treatment, coatings, machining), electrical tests, performance tests, and preservation/packing.
Manage NCRs, concessions, and waivers; lead root cause analysis and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
Drive closure and acceptance of Manufacturer's Data Records (MDRs)/Data Books and turnover dossiers (including CoC/MTRs, calibration certs, test reports, as-built drawings, nameplate data).
Support interface management with Engineering, EPCs, and owners, punch lists, and readiness for shipment/installation.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure adherence to applicable codes/standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI, IEC/UL/NEMA, NEC/NFPA, ATEX/IECEx, NACE/AMPP, AWS D1.1/D1.6, ISO/IEC).
Confirm regulatory and customer-specific requirements (e.g., PED/CE, CRN, OSHA, state/local AHJ requirements) are accounted for.

Continuous Improvement & Reporting

Establish supplier performance KPIs (quality escapes, on-time ITP stages, first-pass yield, NCR closure time).
Lead lessons learned
Develop training, standard work procedures, and templates (ITP, QP, inspection checklists, MDR index, FAT protocol) for consistency and scalability.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials) or related technical discipline; equivalent experience considered.
8+ years in QA/QC for engineered equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, switchgear/MCCs, transformers, packaged skids, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, instrumentation systems).
Hands-on experience with supplier quality, ITP development, welding/NDE oversight, FAT/SAT, and data book compilation.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 QMS and audit practices; strong understanding of API/ASME/IEC/UL/NEMA/NFPA codes.
Demonstrated success leading NCR/RCCA and preventing recurrence (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEAs).
Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, data sheets, and specifications.
Strong communication and stakeholder management, including contractors, TPIs, and OEMs.
Willingness to travel (domestic/international) to vendor facilities ~20-35% as project load dictates.
