Position: Senior Monitoring Engineer
Client: Financial Sector
Location: Toronto (Hybrid) - 3 days onsite per week

Overview
The Senior Monitoring Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the organization's network systems. This role involves proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network infrastructure to guarantee high availability and optimal performance. The engineer will collaborate with internal IT teams and external vendors to resolve issues and implement network enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and optimize monitoring platforms, with primary focus on SolarWinds, Zabbix, Microsoft Sentinel, and DEX tools (e.g., Nexthink, ADEM, or similar Digital Experience Monitoring platforms).
Fine-tune alert thresholds, correlation rules, dependencies, and escalation paths across servers, network devices, storage, cloud services, and endpoints to reduce noise and improve signal quality.
Monitor infrastructure performance and digital employee experience metrics to ensure high uptime, availability, and service reliability.
Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting for SLAs, KPIs, uptime, availability, endpoint health, and operational performance metrics.
Partner with cybersecurity teams to align infrastructure and endpoint monitoring with threat detection and security monitoring initiatives.
Support incident management, root cause analysis, and coordination with internal teams and external vendors.
Contribute to capacity planning, performance tuning, and infrastructure scalability initiatives.
Automate monitoring configurations, endpoint remediation tasks, and operational processes using Ansible and PowerShell.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong hands-on experience with SolarWinds, Zabbix, Microsoft Sentinel, and DEX platforms (e.g., Nexthink, Azure ADEM, or similar).
Proven experience fine-tuning alerts and reducing false positives in complex enterprise environments.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, SNMP), Windows/Linux systems administration, and endpoint management concepts.
Experience producing SLA/KPI, uptime, availability, and digital experience reporting.
Working knowledge of Ansible and PowerShell for automation and configuration management.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
