Job Title: Emergency and Critical Care Speciality Intern

Location: Dick White Referrals, Newmarket

Job Type: Fixed Term 1 year

Start Date: 15th June 2026

Hours: Variable shift pattern including a combination of days, evenings, weekends and nights.

About Us

DWR is one of the largest specialist multi-disciplinary referral centres in Europe. Located in Cambridgeshire, our brand new, state-of-the-art hospital has a team of specialists that cover a wide range of disciplines in addition to ECC.

Your Role And Responsibilities

Based within our Emergency and Critical Care Service, these one-year ECC internships are the perfect launching pad for those considering further clinical training in this field, as well as those wishing to return to general practice.

The successful applicants will gain extensive clinical experience in managing critically ill patients as well as primary management of emergency patients whilst working under the supervision of four board-certified Specialists in ECC. You will join a team of six house officers in our purpose-built Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room. Our case load is busy and varied, and we are equipped to support highly intensive patients including those on mechanical ventilation.

We boast a thriving programme of continuing education within the hospital, including dedicated weekly teaching for the ECC house officer team. Research is encouraged, and mentorship is provided for this as well as for general career development. Wider educational support for house officers is also provided across all Linnaeus hospitals. DWR is an educational partner with the University of Nottingham and interns will also gain experience in teaching final year veterinary students on rotation.

Applicants should have at least two years’ experience of emergency practice and/or a rotating internship. They must be a member of the RCVS and have appropriate English language qualifications at the time of interview.

For an informal discussion, please contact Emily Thomas (emily.thomas@dwr.co.uk)

The closing date for applications is Friday 6th March 2026.
