Why Clipboard Exists

We exist to lift as many people up the socioeconomic ladder as possible. We dramatically improve lives by letting professionals turn extra time and ambition into career growth and financial opportunity. We achieve this with our app-based marketplace that connects workplaces and professionals, allowing professionals to book on-demand shifts and workplaces to access on-demand talent.

About Clipboard

Clipboard is a fast-growing Series C marketplace. We are a leader in our Long Term Care vertical and are expanding into several others (Dental Offices, Schools, etc).

We are a YC Top Company with a global, remote team of 700+ people. We have been profitable since 2022, and fill millions of shifts annually at partner workplaces across the US, where tens of thousands of professionals work with us every year.

We are looking for your help to keep growing so we can serve more professionals and workplaces.

Your Mission: Learn Fast, Build Real Things, Create Impact

As a Software Engineering Intern at Clipboard Health, you won't work on toy projects — you'll ship real code that affects how healthcare professionals and facilities connect. You'll be embedded in an engineering team alongside experienced engineers, product managers, and designers, tackling meaningful problems from day one. If you love learning by doing and want to see your work have immediate, tangible impact, this is the internship for you.

What You'll Do: Ship Real Code, Grow as an Engineer

Contribute to Production Features

Write and ship code in our stack (Node/NestJS, React, TypeScript) with guidance from your team.
Work with MongoDB, Postgres, and Redis as part of building features that serve real users at scale.

Own a Project End-to-End

Take ownership of a scoped project - from understanding the problem, through design and implementation, to demoing your work.
Deploy your own code using trunk-based development with automated testing and short-lived feature branches.

Learn How Great Teams Build Software

Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback to sharpen your craft.
Contribute to our web applications and see how reusable components and shared libraries power a global engineering org.

Collaborate with Product and Customers

Understand the real-world problems faced by our facility clients, nurses, and internal users.
See how product decisions are made by working closely with PMs and occasionally hearing directly from customers.

Thrive in a Remote-First Environment

Communicate clearly and asynchronously with a globally distributed team — strong writing matters here.
Join daily overlap sessions or syncs (typically mornings US PST) to stay connected with your team.

What You Bring to the Table: Curiosity and a Bias Toward Action

Foundational Technical Skills

Familiarity with at least one programming language (TypeScript/JavaScript preferred, but not required).
Exposure to web development concepts — you've built something, whether that's a class project, a side project, or an open-source contribution.

Problem-Solving Mindset

You like breaking down ambiguous problems and figuring things out, even when you don't have all the answers yet.
Comfortable asking questions, seeking feedback, and iterating quickly.

Clear Communication

You can explain your thinking in writing — this is essential in our remote culture.
Open to giving and receiving direct feedback, even when it's uncomfortable.

Customer Empathy

Motivated by building things that help real people, not just checking boxes.

Bonus Points For

Side Projects or Open Source Contributions: You've built something outside of class that you're proud of.
Startup Curiosity: You're drawn to fast-moving environments where you can wear multiple hats.
First-Principles Thinking: You question assumptions and look for the simplest, most effective solution.

About the Company

Clipboard connects healthcare facilities and schools with local professionals who can work unfilled shifts. Patients and students get improved care, and professionals get more flexibility and higher pay. Professionals can compare work details and pay rates (or negotiate for more) in an open, transparent marketplace. Today, healthcare facilities and schools are understaffed, which can result in poor patient care, student outcomes, and employee burnout. Meanwhile, local professionals have time and want to pick up extra shifts.... Know more
