Job Specifications
Senior Edge Software Engineer – Industrial IoT / Telemetry
Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Edge Software Engineer to build software that runs on physical devices deployed across large-scale data center environments. This role is heavily focused on edge device behavior, high-rate telemetry, and AI-assisted development—not cloud application work.
You’ll work from detailed specs, use AI tools to generate initial implementations, and then deeply review and refine the code to ensure correctness, performance, and safety.
Location: Santa Clara, CA
Rate: Very flexible for the right candidate (up to $150/hour)
Duration: Rolling Contract Through 2026
What You’ll Do
Design, refine, and maintain markdown-based specifications that define edge device behavior in large-scale data center deployments.
Break specs into architectural components, implementation plans, tasks, and test outlines.
Use AI-assisted development tools to generate initial code and then:
Review every line
Validate behavior
Fix errors
Ensure the implementation aligns with the architecture and safety workflows
Build and optimize real-time telemetry pipelines for data coming from thousands of devices, with a focus on reliability and low-latency processing.
Troubleshoot complex issues on physical edge hardware deployed in data centers.
Participate in and lead code reviews to ensure code quality, performance, and architectural alignment.
Collaborate with engineers across multiple locations to align frameworks, caching strategies, and system behaviors.
Contribute to architecture decisions, sprint planning, and upcoming demos.
Required Skills & Experience
7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Strong experience developing software for edge devices, embedded systems, or device-focused architectures.
Hands-on experience working with telemetry or streaming data from devices or sensors, ideally at moderate to large scale.
Demonstrated ability to debug and optimize device-level or distributed systems for performance and reliability.
Experience working from specs/design docs and turning them into concrete implementations and test plans.
Comfort using AI-assisted code generation tools and:
Validating AI-produced outputs
Reviewing and correcting AI-generated code
Ensuring quality, safety, and architectural alignment
Nice to Have
Experience with industrial IoT, robotics, automation, energy, or data center infrastructure.
Exposure to large device fleets (hundreds to thousands of devices in production).
Familiarity with cloud IoT services (Azure IoT, AWS IoT, etc.) or telemetry platforms.
Experience with real-time or control systems, including 60 Hz control-level behaviors.
Prior work with human-in-the-loop safety workflows.
Why This Role Is Unique
You’ll work at the intersection of edge devices, real-world physical systems, and AI-assisted development.
You’ll help define and refine a highly structured AI-assisted engineering workflow.
Your work directly impacts the reliability and safety of large-scale data center environments.
