Job Summary
Security Services Group (SSG) is the MOD’s Technical Authority for electronic and physical security providing in-house expert advice, design, installation and maintenance of electronic and physical security systems across Government, prioritised towards Secret and Above Secret, and items Attractive to Criminal and Terrorist Organisations (ACTO). SSG is part of GUARDIAN and is positioned within Standing Joint Command to support UK homeland security and resilience.
With an FTE of 325, SSG provides technical specialist ‘consultancy’ advice to projects to support the creation of design specifications through to commissioning; project management and delivery with through life maintenance; strategic and tactical compliance assurance reviews and audits across the business; an assured government use only Intruder Detection System built in-house; and security furniture services. Head of SSG is also the MOD’s Head of Specialism for Physical Security across the MOD (part of the Government Security Profession).
SSG’s Operational Delivery teams are the MOD’s specialist in-house security providers, delivering project management, design, installation and 24/7, 365 days a year maintenance of all aspects of electronic and physical security, with a global reach. SSG’s work is independently audited to ensure, ISO 9001:2015 and NSI compliance and accreditation as well as MOD’s own internal compliance regime. Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Security Engineer to join SSG as a Technical Support Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Intruder Detection Systems (IDS) technologies, be self-motivated, and demonstrate a proactive, solution-focused approach to technical challenges.
This role is based at MOD Sealand, working as part of an established team of technical specialists. The successful candidate will report directly to SSG’s Production, Development, and Support (PDS) Team Leader.
As the Technical Support Project Manager, your primary responsibilities will include providing technical support for SSG’s in-house manufactured IDS capability, AC12M, and managing the delivery of specialist projects that align with SSG’s ambitious vision. Comprehensive AC12M product training will be provided to external candidates as required.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Provide technical support and system design guidance to SSG operations.
Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, which may involve site visits or replicating fault conditions in a controlled workshop environment. Note: SSG supports sites both in the UK and overseas, so this role includes travel opportunities.
Develop and maintain engineering technical literature and technical notices, ensuring all work complies with industry standards, procedures, MOD policies, and best practices adopted by SSG.
Track and log faults, including details of inquiries, complaints, and actions taken. Escalate complex issues to management when necessary. Analyse fault trends to identify training needs, system issues, and opportunities for future product development. Collaborate with internal and external teams to develop effective solutions.
Test and evaluate new software or hardware products in support of approved integrators or PDS Development team.
Assist the PDS Training team in the continuous improvement of AC12M training facilities.
Provide expertise in IDS design, network configuration, and installation advice for the AC12M system to support SSG projects, as required.
Work closely with the PDS Team Leader on specialist technical projects aligned with continuous improvement and preparation for future product range.
Stay up to date with product knowledge, technical advancements, and relevant skills.
As required, support the production and testing of SSG IDS systems.
Participate in on-call rotations to provide support as required.
