Job Specifications

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5–8 Platform Engineers in a growing, tech-led organisation where our engineering teams help drive our mission. You’ll bring a strong technical foundation, ideally in DevOps, Platform, or backend, and while hands-on work is minimal, you’ll need to speak the language of engineers and understand how they think and build.

This role blends line management, stakeholder engagement, and strategic delivery. You’ll work closely with our Director of Cloud Engineering and proactively seek out requirements across teams, balancing strong technical opinions with business needs. Our engineers are passionate about what they do and create, your job is to channel that energy into impact.

We work in a lean, agile, incremental way. We're looking for someone who is pragmatic, objective, and focused on using the right tool for the right job. You’ll help the team stay motivated, manage tech debt thoughtfully, and keep sight of the bigger picture as we scale. If this sounds like you, then we want to hear from you.

At Our Future Health, our mission is to transform the prevention, detection and treatment of conditions such as dementia, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.  We’re looking for people to join us on our journey. If you’re looking for a new challenge where you can contribute to helping future generations live in good health for longer, then we’re keen to speak with you.

What You’ll Be Doing

Leading an engineering team including line management of engineers and their career development, coaching, objective setting and general team happiness.
Working closely with partners or suppliers to consult on integrations and more complex systems.
Leading engineering delivery, working closely with Product Managers, ensuring we are running productive processes with clear lines of communication whilst working on high-value projects and producing high quality software and systems.
Growing the team; hiring great new colleagues, planning for future needs, balancing across permanent staff, contractors and digital agency relationships.
Identifying and implementing new technologies and tools that keep us ahead of the curve.
Championing best practices in platform engineering and DevOps, promoting code quality, security, maintainability, and scalability.
Working collaboratively on the technology roadmap; participating in decisions on platforms and tools; helping shape the software development process.

What You Won’t Be Doing

Working in a siloed environment with no freedom to make decisions.
Working in a place where you can’t see the impact your expertise makes.

Requirements

Experience

Experience of leading an engineering team in a rapidly scaling environment, including engineers of different skillsets to your own, possibly including other engineering managers.
The ability to mentor and coach engineers, helping them develop their technical and leadership skills.
Technically astute and able to arbitrate technical discussions with the team, with experience as a software engineer.
The ability to understand and break down complex engineering tasks into actionable work items.
The ability to contribute to the code base, and technical discussions your team is dealing with when the need arises.
Experience with agile methodologies and knowledge of how to apply them to get the best out of a team.
Demonstrable experience working with software teams practicing continuous delivery, using infrastructure-as-code and modern DevOps techniques, Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), following best practices like code review and pairing using tools like Git and GitHub.
Experience in hiring, managing and growing platform engineers and finding the right opportunities for them.
The ability to build a people first, collaborative and empathetic environment.
Experience delivering and maintaining consumer web or mobile products,
Experience working with sensitive personal data; environments with strong security considerations.
