Founding AI Research Engineer

Location: London or San Francisco (3 days in-office) | Remote options available Compensation: £150,000 - £190,000 USD (DOE) + Equity

The Mission:

We are building an autonomous AI Material Scientist capable of discovering, synthesising, and scaling entirely new physical materials. Our AI unites machine learning, high-throughput experimentation, and scientific reasoning into a single closed-loop system.

The Challenge:

Confronting the complexity of material science, we operate in a deeply technical, research-driven environment. Join our small (6-person), high-powered founding team from institutions like Isomorphic Labs, Microsoft Research, Cambridge, and Oxford . Your work will redefine humanity's interaction with the physical world.

The Role (70% Engineering / 30% Research):

Architect & Maintain ML Pipelines: Build industrial-scale ML training, inference, and deployment workflows.

Develop Research Tooling: Create infrastructure that accelerates AI-driven simulation and experimentation.

Implement ML Algorithms: Deploy and evaluate novel ML algorithms with scientists.

Optimise Performance: Ensure scalability and reproducibility across HPC clusters and cloud systems.

Drive Data Stewardship: Contribute to data management and evaluation frameworks.

Who We Seek:

You are a builder with a profound curiosity for fundamental scientific problems.

Experience: 2+ years building and deploying robust systems in technical, research-driven settings.

Technical Depth: Proficient in Python, PyTorch, Linux, Git, HPC, and Cloud Platforms.

Impact-Driven: Passionate about AI directly interacting with the physical world for transformative results.
