Main Function of the role:
Following the acquisition of Hermes Investments by Federated in 2018, strategic initiatives to harmonise processes and practices are a strong element of the global change agenda. This role will provide Investment Operations BAU and change management support within a programme of work designed to reinforce firmwide integration, create opportunities for commercial growth, and deliver operational efficiency improvements across the US and UK. Phase one of harmonisation is adoption of consistent Trading Order Management System (OMS) and Federated Hermes Limited (FHL) will be moving from the current OMS to new Equity and Fixed income OMS platforms consistent with the US office, creating a harmonised global model. A key component is to define and establish a consistent global data model and data support operating model.
The role holder will provide day to day data operations coverage supporting the increased and more complex data operations model as we navigate creation of a uniform data architecture and migrate and consolidate data to support the future state operating environment. A strong Data platform is an important foundation and critical to the success of the TOMS interim model.
This role sits within the Investment Operations reporting to the Head of Data Operations. With significant subject matter expertise, the Data Manager will have close interaction with existing Senior Data Analysts. They will provide help to the Head of Data Operations when needed as well as the Middle office Senior Management Team. The holder will have close interaction with business intelligence and reporting services for Investments, Risk, Client Reporting teams, Business Development, Product Development, Finance & Marketing. Improving data quality, resolving complex queries, recommending and implementing improvements to processes and controls, engaging with project teams supporting business changes. The role holder will work with the team who are responsible for ensuring high quality data is maintained in multiple core investment systems.
The primary focus of the team is ensuring data feeds from service providers and market data vendors are processed into investment management and reporting systems and controlled on an exception basis and master data sets such as securities and other reference data are maintained to high standard. Additionally, the role holder will use their subject matter expertise and will be involved in system and other business change, support development of data strategy and data governance and drive ongoing improvements to data quality and enhanced control globally
Key task and responsibilities:
• Develop strong relationships with key client and stakeholder groups including Investments, Risk, Business Development, Operations, and IT, in order to understand key needs and drivers and improve data services.
• Develop a detailed knowledge of business intelligence and reporting services mapping the data flows and quality management processes supporting delivery of data into investment decision making.
• Operate a robust set of data controls on data received from NT and market data vendors ensuring that data presented to end user applications is complete, accurate and timely.
• Ensure master data sets such as securities, accounts, share classes and counterparties are set up and maintained to a high standard.
• Competent to operate all ‘business as usual’ activities in the team working towards expert level on majority.
• Maintain and build strong knowledge base on data elements of products and all asset classes.
• Perform root cause analysis of data exceptions, identifying actions that can be made to prevent recurrence such as improvements in source data, system processing or additional controls required.
• Maintain team procedures and other documentation such as process diagrams and data dictionaries to a high standard.
