Software Engineer (Backend) – Java

London, UK

up to 100k + equity

You’ll be joining a high-calibre engineering team building the backend systems that power a next-generation, AI-driven wealth management platform. This is a role for an engineer who wants meaningful ownership: designing distributed systems, building clean and scalable services, and shaping the architecture behind intelligent workflows handling billions in assets.

What you’ll be doing

Building and maintaining scalable APIs and microservices at the core of the platform
Designing and evolving distributed systems powering automation, integrations, and client operations
Writing clean, maintainable Java (17/21) with strong emphasis on TDD, DDD, and CI/CD
Leading greenfield feature development while also refining and improving existing systems
Ensuring performance and reliability through robust monitoring and observability
Collaborating with AI engineers, designers, and product teams to deliver impactful features
Contributing to architectural decisions, code reviews, and technical planning

What we’re looking for

3+ years' experience building backend, high-performance, distributed systems
Strong fluency in Java with deep understanding of backend architecture and design patterns
Solid experience with microservices, APIs, and databases (PostgreSQL, Redis)
Strong foundation in computer science, mathematics, or related fields
Comfortable working in cloud environments such as AWS
Fast learner with a results-driven mindset and strong problem-solving ability
Clear communicator who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments
Fluent in English
A right to work in the UK indefinitely without expiry.
Willingness to travel once a week to London office nice to have.
