Azure Data Engineer – Contract (Outside IR35)

Location: Stockport (2 days per week on-site)

Contract: Outside IR35

Rate: £500 a day

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Azure Data Engineer to join our team on a contract basis and support a major data migration programme. You’ll work closely with architecture, analytics, and business teams to design, build, and optimise scalable data solutions in Azure, ensuring a smooth transition from legacy systems to a modern cloud-based platform.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to end-to-end data migration activities into Azure.
Design and develop Azure data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and related services.
Build and optimise ETL/ELT workflows to support migration and ongoing data processing.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
Implement data modelling, data quality frameworks, and best-practice engineering standards.
Troubleshoot and enhance existing data processes for performance, cost efficiency, and reliability.
Ensure governance, security, and compliance across data assets.

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience delivering Azure-based data engineering solutions.
Strong background in large-scale data migration projects.
Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Azure SQL, Delta Lake, and related services.
Proficient in Python and/or SQL for data engineering workflows.
Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing concepts, and cloud-based data architectures.
Experience with DevOps practices (CI/CD, Git, ARM/Bicep/Terraform) is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
