Freelance Security Engineer - Hybrid - Long Term

We are looking for a Freelance Security Engineer to join our infrastructure and operations team. In this role, you will focus on maintaining system security, performing server patching, monitoring SSL certificates, and implementing compliance and configuration best practices. You will work closely with the CISO and IT teams to ensure a secure, stable, and compliant technical environment.

Responsibilities

Perform regular server patching and updates to maintain system integrity and compliance.
Manage and monitor SSL certificates, notifying relevant teams when renewals are required.
Implement security recommendations and findings as directed by the CISO or security audits.
Ensure proper configuration and compliance across systems, such as closing open ports and enforcing security baselines.
Conduct vulnerability remediation and configuration hardening on Windows Server and network devices.
Assist in maintaining and monitoring antivirus and endpoint protection systems (Sophos).
Collaborate with the IT and network teams to troubleshoot and resolve system or network security issues.
Maintain documentation and reports on patch status, vulnerabilities, and compliance posture.
Support ongoing improvement of security processes, standards, and procedures.

Technical Environment

Operating Systems: Windows Server (2016/2019/2022)
Network & Security: Cisco Meraki (Access Points, Firewalls, VPNs), Sophos Endpoint Protection
Tools: Patch management systems, vulnerability scanners, and SSL monitoring utilities

Additional Details:

START DATE: ASAP
DURATION: 6 months part time then full time long term extension
CONTRACT: Freelance
ONSITE POLICY: Brussels (flexible remote working)
HOURS PER WEEK: 16 hours/week for first 6 months then 40 hours/week after
LANGUAGES: English only
INTERVIEW PROCESS: One stage
