Job Title: IT Support Engineer - Utilities Client
Location: Hybrid / On-site (as required) East Sussex - 2/3 days a week

Overview
We are seeking a skilled IT Support Engineer to provide technical support, maintenance, and administration across Windows Server and Linux environments for a leading utilities client. The role involves maintaining the stability, security, and performance of business-critical systems supporting operational technology, smart infrastructure, and enterprise IT services.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support for Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS) environments.
Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot server infrastructure, storage, and network connectivity across multiple data centres and cloud environments.
Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
Perform user account provisioning, permissions management, and incident resolution within defined SLAs.
Support and maintain virtualised environments (VMware vSphere / Hyper-V).
Conduct system patching, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
Support deployment and maintenance of monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds).
Collaborate with Infrastructure, Network, and Cyber Security teams to ensure operational resilience.
Maintain backup and disaster recovery processes (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
Document system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience supporting Windows Server and Linux platforms in enterprise or utilities environments.
Strong knowledge of Active Directory, PowerShell, and Windows Server administration tools.
Competence in Linux CLI administration, system services, package management, and log analysis.
Understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing).
Experience managing virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
Working knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Good understanding of cybersecurity principles and patch management processes.
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
Ability to prioritise multiple incidents and work effectively under pressure.
Desirable Skills
Experience with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure or AWS).
Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, SCCM).
Experience in monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., Zabbix, Prometheus, SolarWinds).
Scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, or Python).
Knowledge of ITIL processes and service management best practices.
Previous experience in utilities, energy, or critical infrastructure sectors.
