Job Specifications
The Principal Engineer role has been recently created in order to be a senior leader within the Innovation and Product Development team. The position will primarily be focusing on strategic direction of the engineering program as a whole and the broader engineering department. While the role will still be hands-on with complex problems and deliverables, the primary function is to act as a high level technical expert, mentor and visionary. The purpose of this role is to lead, organise, form and nurture engineering at all levels.

A proven Engineering expert who is time served with experience in leading and mentoring multifunctional teams through the correct processes and procedures
Mentoring and guiding a team of engineers to foster a culture of technical rigor, continuous improvement, and problem-solving
Able to interpret over all department strategy in order to create strong achievable goals that will help grow the department
Whilst this is a mechanical and manufacturing biased role it will also require knowledge of adjacent engineering responsibilities such as electronics, software and firmware
Key Tasks:
Accountable for influencing the organizational design and efficiency of the engineering department
Responsible for mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence
Accountable for setting and upholding the highest standards of engineering practices
Responsible for making strategic technical decisions that align with and optimize project budgets
Accountable for identifying, assessing, and mitigating technical risks at the program level
Responsible for leading the resolution of challenging and ambiguous technical issues
Accountable for defining and ensuring the integrity of complex system architectures
Responsible for setting the long-term technical vision and strategy for engineering functions
Requirements
A solid engineering background with proven experience of leading teams and working effectively within a matrix organisation structure
An excellent communicator, calm under pressure and capable of managing multiple priorities
Expert proficiency in SolidWorks (including 3D modeling, 2D drafting, surfacing, sheet metal, weldments, and simulation)
Expert level understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, materials science, and manufacturing processes
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Expert Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
Experience using PLM software
Proficiency in Google G-Suite & Microsoft Office
Good analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data, provide conclusions and recommendations for follow up action accordingly
Commercially astute with an understanding of product cost structures and viability
Knowledge of regulatory affairs at a regional or international level desirable
Statistical engineering and data improvement experience/capabilities - with knowledge of 6 sigma desirable
