Database Engineer - Sybase ASE Specialist

Location: London (Hybrid)

Rate: Up to 700/day

Duration: 6-month rolling contract

Client: Leading Investment Bank

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer with strong SQL expertise and hands-on experience in Sybase ASE . You will be responsible for developing, optimising, and maintaining database solutions that support critical business operations within a global investment banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhance stored procedures to implement complex business logic.
Optimize query performance and troubleshoot database issues.
Work with large datasets and ensure efficient SQL operations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality database solutions.
Maintain version control and CI/CD processes using Git and GitLab.

Required Skills

In-depth knowledge of SQL, T-SQL, and data warehousing concepts.
Proven experience with Sybase ASE databases.
Proficiency in Linux environments.
Strong experience in performance tuning and query optimisation.
Familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools (eg, GitLab).
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

Shell Scripting experience.
Knowledge of cloud platforms and Big Data technologies.
Strong programming skills in Python .
