Location: Remote (must work EST hours; candidates within the U.S. only)

Compensation: $70/hour (contract, 40 hrs/week, with potential to convert to permanent role)

Contract Type: Staff Augmentation -- working for a large public client through NextGen

About the Role

NextGen Coding Company is seeking a Cyber Security Architect for a contract staff augmentation assignment with a major public client. The architect will partner with IT teams to ensure security controls are embedded in new and existing solutions, improve security processes, and advise on compliance and risk. This role requires strong communication skills, cyber controls expertise, and deep knowledge of security architecture, PCI compliance, audit practices, and IT engineering.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain security architecture designs and frameworks for technology systems
Monitor industry intelligence for emerging security technologies, regulations, and practices
Oversee development efforts to ensure adherence to policies, standards, and reference architectures
Participate in decision-making processes for adopting new hardware and software
Contribute to the annual information security strategy and roadmap
Apply knowledge of cyber security tools and operational processes to advise on residual risk
Promote security tooling adoption through education and awareness
Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements: PCI-DSS, SOX, GLBA, CCPA, GDPR
Apply frameworks and models: FFIEC, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, NIST-CSF
Bring intermediate knowledge of IT tools such as networking, LDAP, patch management, incident management, encryption, cloud computing, SDLC, and access management
Apply soft skills (conflict resolution, reflective listening, empathy) to build trust and credibility
Coach and guide less experienced team members while serving as a trusted partner across IT and business functions

Qualifications

Minimum 5-8 years of experience in a similar or related security role
3+ years with AWS and Microsoft Azure, including multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud architecture
Experience designing cyber security solutions and analyzing risks
Ability to define strategic cyber security direction and align it with tactical execution
Strong knowledge of cloud services and distributed system architecture
Proven experience creating secure patterns for cloud application migrations
High School Diploma or equivalent (experience in lieu accepted)

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or related field
Familiarity with scripting languages (JavaScript, Python, PowerShell)
Experience in SRE, DevSecOps, or DevOps
Knowledge of CI/CD and security configuration management
Prior experience writing standards documentation for architectures and solutions
Hands-on use of cloud-native security tools (Azure Security Center, AWS GuardDuty)
Certifications such as CISSP, CRISC, AWS Solutions Architect, or Azure Security
Experience with cloud security posture management tools
Exposure to virtualization, containers, and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

CISSP, CRISC, or AI-related certifications

Requirements

Must work EST hours (8am-5pm)
Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Ability to pass a background check, including:
Criminal background (10 years, all residences)

Education/professional license verification (if required)

Sex offender registry check (where permitted by law)
Credit check (required for card services roles)
