Job Description
Job title: Data Privacy Assistant General Counsel Role Summary: Provide strategic and practical legal oversight of global data privacy frameworks for a major international organisation. Lead the development and implementation of data governance initiatives, ensure compliance with regulatory regimes, and advise cross‑functional teams on responsible data use. Expectations: - Deliver timely, solutions‑focused privacy advice to senior stakeholders. - Shape and drive the organisation’s data governance strategy. - Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of evolving privacy laws and regulatory expectations. Key Responsibilities: - Advise on global data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and regulatory regimes. - Support the design, implementation and review of data governance and risk management frameworks. - Review and assess data collection, storage and processing practices across the organisation. - Provide counsel on procurement and third‑party data handling arrangements. - Collaborate with legal, innovation, marketing, procurement and data governance teams on complex data‑related matters. - Conduct gap analyses and develop mitigation plans for data privacy compliance. - Draft, negotiate and monitor privacy‑related contractual provisions. - Conduct awareness and training initiatives on privacy and data handling. - Monitor changes in privacy regulations and recommend policy updates. Required Skills: - Strong understanding of international data privacy laws and regulatory frameworks. - Experience drafting and negotiating privacy‑related agreements. - Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and project‑management abilities. - Clear, concise communication and stakeholder‑management skills. - Ability to deliver confident, practical advice under pressure and on short notice. Required Education & Certifications: - Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree. - Qualified solicitor or equivalent legal practitioner status. - Minimum 4–5 years of experience in data privacy law, preferably within a law firm or international corporation.
