Job Description
**Job Title:** Financial Controller **Role Summary:** Senior finance professional responsible for end‑to‑end financial control, statutory reporting, audit coordination, and tax compliance for a UK FMCG/retail organization. Acts as primary liaison with auditors, regulators, and external advisors while leading a small finance team and supporting strategic decision‑making across the business and its overseas subsidiaries. **Expectations:** - Deliver accurate balance‑sheet reconciliations, statutory accounts, and tax filings on time. - Maintain a robust control environment and ensure audit readiness. - Drive process improvements and tax optimisation initiatives. - Lead, develop, and mentor finance staff; collaborate with senior leadership and external stakeholders. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead all statutory audits (UK and overseas subsidiaries) and manage auditor relationships. - Own balance‑sheet reconciliation, focusing on high‑risk items (rebates, provisions, accruals). - Oversee UK Export Business Partners’ balance‑sheet management. - Manage corporation tax, VAT, PAYE, and international tax compliance; coordinate tax planning (e.g., R&D claims). - Supervise Overheads Controller; ensure cost control, accurate reporting, and budget alignment for overheads and CAPEX. - Prepare and review statutory accounts under UK GAAP or IFRS. - Maintain financial control framework and ensure records are audit‑ready. - Support Group Financial Controller on intercompany accounting and cross‑border reporting. - Handle statutory filings and relationships with HMRC and other regulators (VAT, P11D, PSA, Plastic Packaging Tax). - Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team; promote continuous improvement. **Required Skills:** - Strong financial control, statutory reporting, and audit expertise in multi‑entity environments. - In‑depth knowledge of UK GAAP/IFRS and UK tax compliance. - Proven experience managing external auditors and professional advisors. - Leadership and people‑management capability. - Excellent communication, analytical, and detail‑orientation skills. - Commercially minded with a pragmatic approach to problem‑solving. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent). - Prior practice training (e.g., audit/accounting firm experience).
