Job Description
**Job Title:** Graduate Real‑time & Embedded Software Engineer **Role Summary:** Support the design, development, and deployment of embedded software for AB Dynamics’ automotive test equipment (track‑based and laboratory systems). Participate in an 18‑month graduate rotation programme to gain cross‑functional exposure and build a solid foundation for an engineering career. **Expectations:** - Pursuing a 2:1 (or higher) degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Systems, Automotive, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Robotics). - Basic understanding of hardware and software systems, preferably in automotive or robotics contexts. - Proficiency in Python (or comparable languages) for automation, test control, and data analysis. - Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. - Effective team player with good written and oral English communication. - Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to test sites. - Motivated to learn, adapt, and develop a broad range of engineering skills. **Key Responsibilities:** - Define, design, and implement software architectures for automotive test systems. - Develop and deploy embedded software for both track‑based and lab‑based products. - Apply and maintain software standards, best practices, and safety/security compliance. - Collaborate with Systems Engineering to ensure product safety and security requirements are met. - Troubleshoot, optimise performance, and enhance reliability of software solutions. - Research emerging technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement. - Participate in 3‑month rotations across various business areas, investigating technical issues and delivering solutions. - Conduct customer demonstrations, provide technical support, and improve product understanding. - Prepare and deliver progress presentations; engage in company‑organised training programmes. **Required Skills:** - Python programming (automation, testing, data analysis); familiarity with C/C++ is a plus. - Basic knowledge of real‑time and embedded systems concepts. - Understanding of hardware interfaces and electronic control units. - Problem‑solving and analytical thinking. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Team collaboration and stakeholder engagement. - Time‑management and ability to prioritise tasks. - Valid UK driving licence and flexibility to travel. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Currently enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Systems, Automotive, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Robotics or related) with expected 2:1 or higher classification. - No specific certifications required; eligibility to work in the UK and a valid driving licence are mandatory.
