**Job title**
Chemical Analysis Engineer (NMR & UHPLC‑QTof)
**Role Summary**
Lead the operation, maintenance, and scientific support of high‑performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole‑time‑of‑flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC‑QTof) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for a university research platform. Provide analytical expertise, training, and administrative coordination for researchers, students, and external partners.
**Expectations**
- Manage day‑to‑day instrument performance, ensuring reliable operation and first‑level maintenance.
- Serve as primary scientific advisor on structural (1D/2D NMR) and metabolomics analyses.
- Coordinate consumables, fluids, solvents, and waste, liaising with suppliers.
- Design, validate, and document analytical methods.
- Produce analytical reports, presentations, and technical documents.
- Facilitate collaboration and external service delivery (quotes, data submission).
**Key Responsibilities**
- Operate NMR and UHPLC‑QTof instruments: calibration, tuning, validation of analysis sequences.
- Conduct data acquisition, processing, and quantitative interpretation for structural, metabolomic, and LC‑HRMS studies.
- Develop and validate analytical methods in compliance with internal SOPs.
- Maintain instrument condition; coordinate with manufacturer’s service for repairs.
- Manage consumables inventory, place orders, negotiate prices, and track usage.
- Draft and deliver quotations, analytical reports, and financial summaries.
- Train faculty, PhD students, post‑docs, and graduate students in instrument operation and data analysis.
- Participate in platform management, technical strategy meetings, and research projects.
- Participate in scientific outreach: seminars, conferences, and platform website updates.
**Required Skills**
- Proficiency in NMR spectroscopy (1D and 2D) and UHPLC‑QTof operation.
- Experience in chromatographic method development, data processing, and quantitative analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to interpret complex spectral data and generate clear reports.
- Solid communication skills for training and stakeholder interaction.
- Project and inventory management capabilities.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety, waste handling, and regulatory compliance.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field (PhD preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial or academic experience in high‑performance instrumental analysis (NMR and UHPLC‑QTof).
- Certifications in NMR and mass spectrometry methods (e.g., SAES, ILA) are an asset.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001/QMS and laboratory quality systems.
