Job Description
**Job title**: Mechanical Fitter **Role Summary**: Perform both reactive and proactive maintenance on plant and process machinery to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operation. Focus on mechanical equipment, high‑pressure steam systems, boilers, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fire‑prevention systems. Mentor apprentices, report safety concerns, and support continuous improvement of maintenance processes. **Expectations**: - Execute maintenance tasks within safety and regulatory standards. - Minimize equipment downtime and maintain operational continuity. - Communicate effectively with engineering teams and management. - Mentor and guide apprentices in best practices. **Key Responsibilities**: - Conduct routine and emergency maintenance on mechanical plant equipment and process machinery. - Maintain and inspect lifting equipment, steam systems, boilers, hydraulics, pneumatics, and fire‑prevention systems. - Perform mechanical breakdown repairs across all plant and process equipment. - Oversee boiler operation and high‑pressure steam system safety compliance. - Identify and report safety or operational issues to line management. - Provide supervisory support and mentorship to apprentices, promoting safety and compliance. **Required Skills**: - Time‑served mechanical fitter with post‑qualification experience, preferably in manufacturing. - Proficiency in steam, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fire‑prevention systems. - Strong fault‑finding and preventative maintenance abilities. - Ability to learn and understand complex mechanical systems quickly. - Clear, effective communication across all levels of the engineering team. - Organized, logical, solutions‑focused approach to maintenance tasks. **Required Education & Certifications**: - City & Guilds or HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). - Valid mechanical fitter license or training certificate. ---
