Job Description
**Job Title:** Data Center Engineer **Role Summary:** Level 2 Data Center Engineer responsible for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center and network infrastructure (cabling, line cards, optics, and equipment). Works on a ticket‑based, on‑call basis supporting network and server teams with rack‑and‑stack, asset management, failure analysis, and component replacement to ensure continuous operation. **Expectations:** - Immediate availability for urgent, on‑demand tickets. - B2B/Freelance engagement, remote and onsite support as necessary. - Deliver detailed reporting and follow task instructions per higher‑tier guidance. **Key Responsibilities:** - Test, install, and reinforce fiber, copper, and power cabling for new circuits. - Perform rack‑and‑stack duties, cable routing, and power distribution tasks. - Label, patch, and tag assets; conduct functional testing of full systems. - Carry out failure analysis, identify defective components, and carry out planned maintenance or circuit migrations. - Reseat or replace line cards, optically‑based components, and test with loop‑backs/BER tests. - Build and test RJ45 copper cables, perform crimping, and conduct whole‑unit replacement when required. - Provide remote access configuration and basic storage array set‑up as needed. - Execute power cycling and troubleshoot using RMA procedures. **Required Skills:** - Hands‑on experience with installation and rack‑and‑stack of DC and network equipment. - Proficiency in fiber, copper, and MPO cable installation and testing (ICM, BER, loopback). - Ability to perform IMAC (install‑move‑add‑change) and break‑fix operations. - Familiarity with line card, chassis, and optical module maintenance, including reseating. - Knowledge of Nokia and Ciena hardware platforms. - Understanding of standard IT principles (networks, hardware architecture). - Ability to diagnose faults, conduct fault investigations, and process RMAs. - Strong communication for reporting, remote tool usage, and onsite interactions. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field. - Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent are desirable. ---
