Job title: Electro‑Optical Automation Intern Role Summary: Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline electrical and optical simulation workflows for electro‑photonic chip design, integrating EDA/PDK tools and applying machine learning techniques to accelerate design exploration and optimization. Expectations: Produce robust, reusable Python and Cadence SKILL scripts; integrate heterogeneous simulation environments; deploy ML models (surrogate, Bayesian, reinforcement learning) for design space navigation; identify and mitigate workflow bottlenecks; document code and methodologies; collaborate across design teams; maintain high code quality and version control. Key Responsibilities: - Build and maintain automation scripts for simulation tool orchestration, data extraction, and result parsing. - Connect and set up seamless data pipelines between commercial EDA tools (ADS, Cadence Spectre/Virtuoso) and photonic PDKs. - Design and implement ML surrogate and optimization models to evaluate candidate device parameters and propose optimal architectures. - Analyze current simulation performance, identify inefficiencies, and devise strategies to reduce cycle time and computing cost. - Produce detailed documentation of scripts, workflows, and ML methods for reproducibility. - Use version control (Git) for code management and collaboration. Required Skills: - Expert proficiency in Python scripting, data manipulation, and automation. - Cadence SKILL scripting knowledge for layout and simulation customization. - Familiarity with commercial EDA and PDK simulation tools (ADS, Spectre, Virtuoso). - Solid foundation in machine learning, including model training, validation, and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch. - Version control experience (Git). - Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. - Clear written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to document processes and code effectively.
