Category Manager – Convenience
**Role Summary**
Drive category growth and competitive positioning for convenience and small‑store channels by translating consumer insights into actionable plans, executing category roadmaps, and building trusted relationships with retailers. Serve as the commercial fulcrum between internal teams and external customers, ensuring consistent value delivery and category performance.
**Expectations**
- Achieve defined sales, margin, and category share targets.
- Deliver impactful category strategies that balance short‑term performance with long‑term portfolio positioning.
- Act as a trusted advisor to key retail partners, maintaining strong, collaborative relationships.
- Mentor junior team members and promote category management excellence across functions.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Build and sustain strategic relationships with major convenience and small‑store retailers.
2. Convert consumer, shopper, and market trends into channel and customer strategies that drive category growth.
3. Lead the implementation of category roadmaps, including range reviews, store‑level initiatives, and point‑of‑purchase optimization.
4. Develop compelling category narratives and immersive experiences that influence retailer implementation.
5. Champion critical agenda items such as health & wellness, sustainability, deposit return schemes, and HFSS regulation.
6. Collaborate with Insights, Category Strategy, Sales, and Brand/Channel Operations to embed category thinking into brand planning.
7. Set, track, and evaluate performance against range, space, and distribution goals using merchandising blueprints.
8. Manage budget for category development, research, and customer data contracts.
9. Mentor and develop team members while advocating category expertise across the organization.
**Required Skills**
- 3–5 years of category, customer‑marketing, or FMCG commercial experience.
- Strong command of space and range principles and analytical ability with syndicated/ shopper data.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills; confidence in retail customer settings.
- Commercial acumen: understanding of key financial levers and how to optimize them with customer planning.
- Proficiency with space‑planning tools (e.g., JDA, similar).
- Familiarity with customer insight platforms such as dunnhumby, PowerBI, or equivalent.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving business environment.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Business, Marketing, Economics, or related field.
- No mandatory certifications required; knowledge of category methodology or analytics platforms is advantageous.
