**Job Title:** Database Administrator
**Role Summary:**
Oversee, optimize, and secure the organization’s database ecosystem, including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, and Azure Data Lake Storage. Ensure high availability, performance, and compliance for business‑critical applications while automating maintenance, backups, and scaling across Azure environments.
**Expectations:**
- Maintain operational excellence in database performance, availability, and security.
- Deliver documentation, policies, and procedures for database governance.
- Respond promptly to alerts and incidents, minimizing downtime.
- Collaborate with application, DevOps, and data teams to support database design and integrations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Microsoft SQL Server (Managed & Unmanaged Azure SQL Databases)**
- Administer and maintain transactional SQL Server databases.
- Monitor performance, optimize queries, index strategies, and execution plans.
- Manage security roles, user access, and compliance controls.
- Implement automated patching, backups, and elastic scaling.
- Create and maintain policies, documentation, and procedures.
**Azure Database for PostgreSQL**
- Support PostgreSQL instances, including PostGIS extensions.
- Monitor health, performance, and high‑availability settings.
- Manage schema changes, extensions, and version upgrades.
- Work with application teams on design and integration.
**Azure Data Lake Storage**
- Organize data, enforce lifecycle and access policies, and plan DR.
- Partner with data engineers/analysts to enable ingestion, processing, and retrieval.
- Optimize storage performance and cost; monitor usage patterns.
- Perform preventive maintenance during low‑traffic windows.
**Incident Management & Automation**
- Respond to alerts, incidents, and performance issues.
- Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or comparable scripts.
**Required Skills:**
- 5+ years DBA experience, primarily with Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
- Proven work with Azure SQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQL (managed services).
- Experience with PostGIS and spatial data.
- Knowledge of Azure Data Lake Storage governance, organization, and cost control.
- Proficient in T‑SQL, PL/pgSQL.
- Strong grasp of database security, backups, replication, and DR strategies.
- Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, or equivalents).
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication abilities.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, able to juggle multiple priorities.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Azure Database Administrator Associate certification preferred.
