Job Description
Job title: Senior Linux System Engineer / Administrator – Financial Services Role Summary: Hands‑on Linux system engineer responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of workstations, servers, and networking appliances across trading floors, offices, and data centers. Provides direct user support, manages hardware and software deployments, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams in a fast‑moving environment. Expactations: - Deliver high‑quality system setups within tight deadlines. - Maintain robust security configurations (2FA, iptables, Fail2Ban, malware protection). - Communicate effectively with users at all levels. - Travel to data center sites and occasionally overseas for large‑scale build‑outs. Key Responsibilities: - Install and configure Linux workstations and servers (Debian/Ubuntu preferred). - Set up and maintain networking equipment and data‑center cabling. - Troubleshoot user issues, apply patches, and perform routine health checks. - Execute hardware maintenance, upgrades, and asset management. - Deploy office appliances (printers, phones, displays). - Document procedures and maintain system inventory. Required Skills: - Expert Linux administration (Debian/Ubuntu). - Scripting in Bash and Python; SQL, Perl knowledge a plus. - Familiarity with cybersecurity tools (2FA, iptables, Fail2Ban, malware protection). - Strong verbal and written communication. - Ability to handle frequent context switches and complete tasks to finish. - Physical capability to move equipment up to 50 lbs. - Comfortable working in racks, stowing, and boot‑up environments. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred). - Professional certifications (RHCSA/RHCE, LPI, CompTIA Linux+) are advantageous.
